Prof Wim Delva is the founder and managing director of Wimmy, a data science consulting company specialised in health and healthcare. He was trained as a medical doctor and holds a PhD in computational epidemiology. Prior to starting Wimmy he held academic positions at Ghent University in Belgium, ETH in Switzerland and Stellenbosch University, where he studied the biological and behavioural factors that drive epidemics of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. He is currently associate professor (extraordinary) in the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Stellenbosch University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as a research fellow at the South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis.
