Nomampondo Barnabus

Nomampondo is currently employed by Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) as Community Liaison Manager. She joined HIV/ AIDS in 1997 from banking sector after her HIV diagnosis and experienced indirect workplace discrimination. In 1999 was appointed KZN Provincial co-ordinator for NAPWA (National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS). During that term, she led quite a few anti-stigma campaigns. She has also been involved with research as far back as 2000 and has served on various regulatory bodies of the former University of Natal, currently known as UKZN.

Nomampondo is internationally, regionally and local recognised for standing up to ensure that rights and dignities of people infected and affected with HIV are respected. She has served as a member of a DSMB. She is also a seasoned community engagement expert; member of Wits Health Research Ethics Committee, Wits BEC s well as SA MRC Bioethics Advisory Panel: Committee on Genomic Ethics.
