Dr Kenneth Brin
Dr. Brin’s career has spanned the fields of clinical cardiology, physician leadership, and medical informatics. His consultative practice focuses on medical informatics, coding, and reimbursement. Dr. Brin served as a member of the AMA CPT® Editorial Panel from 2006 until 2019, the last 8 years as Vice Chair and Chair. During his tenure, a new set of codes were developed to report proprietary laboratory analyses and a major revision to the evaluation and management services was approved. Dr. Brin also served four years as Chair of the CPT® Assistant Editorial Board. Prior to 2006, Dr. Brin served as the CPT® advisor for the American College of Cardiology as well as Chair of the ACC Coding and Nomenclature Committee.
Dr. Brin retired as Vice President, Medical Informatics, at Advocate Medical Group in 2016. Prior to that, he served as Chief of Cardiology and Medical Director at the Pearsall Heart Hospital, Geisinger Medical Group, Wilkes-Barre, PA, and as Chairman of the Board and CEO of Summit Medical Group, Summit, New Jersey, where he also practiced as an interventional cardiologist. Dr. Brin received his MD and PhD from New York University, completed his internal medicine training at NYU/Bellevue Medical Center, and trained in Cardiovascular Diseases at The Johns Hopkins Hospital where he subsequently served as a faculty member for four years. He has held academic appointments at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Columbia Physicians and Surgeons School of Medicine, and University of Illinois School of Medicine. Throughout his leadership career, he actively practiced interventional, non-invasive, and consultative cardiology.
Dr. Brin is a former chair of the American Medical Group Association Board of Directors, and he has served on the Boards of Directors of the Health Care Incentives Improvement Institute, the American Medical Group Foundation, and the Group Practice Improvement Network. In addition, he has served on numerous committees of several of those organizations.
Dr. Brin is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (Internal Medicine; Cardiovascular Diseases), the American Society of Echocardiography, and the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He was named a Master of the American College of Cardiology in 2016.
